Shimano recently issued a safety notice related to some bonded 11-speed HOLLOWTECH II road cranksets produced before July 2019 for a possible bonding separation issue. At Stages Cycling, we understand that the safety and well-being of riders should never be compromised. We expect that only a small number of customers will be impacted, but we encourage all customers with cranks that fall within the recall notice to contact a Shimano authorized dealer for crank inspection immediately.

Which Stages Power Meters are affected by the recall?

The impacted model numbers are DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA branded cranksets produced before July 2019 with the following model numbers: ULTEGRA FC-6800, FC-R8000 and DURA-ACE FC-9000, FC-R9100 and FC-R9100-P. The model numbers are stamped on the inside of the crank arm near the bottom of the arm. Refer to Shimano’s information to determine the production date based on the production code.

Please refer to Shimano’s notice for more info.

If my crankset with a Stages Power meter is affected, and Shimano sends me a replacement crank, what do I do?

Please contact Stages Support and we will work with you on a Factory Install process for a new Stages Power meter using your Shimano replacement crank. In markets where the Factory Install process is not available, we will work with local partners or dealers to ensure all riders have options to replace their Stages power meter. The Factory Install process is 2-4 weeks, depending on market location.
