Riding it Out: Getting through COVID-19 a Day at a Time

March 25, 2020 |

Woof, things are a little stressful, uncertain and unusual right now. Everything is canceled, we’re practicing social distancing and you may suddenly have more time on your (hopefully recently washed) hands. Here at Stages we love cycling and for health and sanity, we need our regular fix. We bet you do too.

Welcome to Riding it Out….our weekly roundup of tips and tricks for training indoors, interviews, and cycling culture to keep your spirits up even if you aren’t racing and riding outside as much as you’d like to be.

Get Stronger
Heading to gym may not the best move right now, but body weight training (pushups, squats, lunges, sit-ups) make for great cross training at home. Get some inspiration to train like a pro with this workout from professional mountain biker Erin Huck. Don’t have dumbbells? Fill a couple water bottles or milk jugs and use those instead, and inner tubes make great resistance bands.

Cycling on Screen
Without live sporting events to watch, we’re re-watching these classic races and documentaries.

  • Personal Gold: An Underdog Story – With respect to the delayed 2020 Olympics, relive the moment when four underdog women become America’s medal hope at the London Games when the men’s team is banned during the Lance Armstrong drug scandal.
  • 1992 Milan San Remo – Since MSR would have happened last weekend. Get your ‘Primavera’ fix by watching this iconic edition featuring Sean Kelly’s legendary attack down the treacherous Poggio descent.

Riding Inside: Workouts
If you have an indoor cycling setup at home, Benjamin Sharp has some tips to help you get the most out of your training.

  • World Class Coaching powerhouse and Stages partner CTS has made its entire indoor cycling workout video collection available for free.
  • Stages has made indoor bikes for 10 years, and we’re working on a plan to make these available to you at home. Stay tuned!
