Powell is a 4 time MTB National Champion across multiple disciplines.Growing up in the Catskill Mountains shaped Seamus Powell’s racing endeavors. Having nearly unlimited access to MTB trails, hiking, fishing and hunting made it a pretty easy for him to take the path less traveled, pushing traditional sports aside and find his passion. At just 9 years old Powell began racing BMX and by 14 he was fully submerged into XC events across the North East.
Racing came naturally to Powell and after a few seasons spent chasing faster riders he found himself gaining strength, skills and speed. As a Junior Expert he qualified for the UCI World Championships in 2008. He went on to race XC for many years and then found himself itching for something new. Powell turned to the discipline of Super-D racing and in 2013 won the Pro Super-D category at USA National Championships. He went on to defend his title with another win in 2014 and dove deeper into the gravity style of racing and emerging Enduro scene. In 2015 and he began riding for Giant Factory off-Road Team racing North American in Enduro events and continues to do so in 2016.

FAVORITE POWER WORKOUT: My Coach Matt Miller of MTB PHd has me doing lots of interesting training that keeps it fresh and fun! We come up with some super workouts! Since Enduro is still an endurance style of racing we do a bit of threshold work especially early in the season. My favorite is where we do a block of 20 minutes in Zone 4 then straight into 15 minutes at Z3 (recovering but not fully) and then into another 20 minutes at Z4 finishing with 3-5 max efforts sprints!
WHAT’S ON POWELL’S DASH: Normalized power, Avg power, Heart rate
WHAT DOES STAGES DO FOR YOU: Learning and knowing when to back off leading up to events. I train on a very recovery based program where I train VERY hard and then take loads of time to recover. That said I know when I’ve done the work and I rely on my Stages Power meter to back up my mind with hard data telling me I’m ready! … Or not…
POWELL’S FAVORITE WORKOUT
“Micro Sprints” are my favorite in season workout. This is an interval or multiple interval sets of 10-15 min in length. You start each interval set with a 5-10sec all out effort and recover between sprints at tempo z3 pace. you complete a sprint at the top of every minute until you complete 10-15 minutes worth of work. I feel like this is a great way to keep me sharp and create a very specific training stress for enduro racing.
