STAGES ATHLETE: ALI BRAUER

Born and raised in Oregon, endurance sports have been a part of my life since Ali was a child. She went on to compete in track, cross-country, and swimming at Lewis & Clark College while studying math and physics. Athletics were put on the backburner while she pursued her master's in Applied Mathematics, but she couldn't stay away from competitive sport for long. Ali joined the club triathlon team at CU Boulder while working toward her PhD and qualified for her elite license just months later. Realizing that triathlon had become her new passion, she decided leave academia to pursue a career as a professional triathlete starting in 2018. After a few promising results in World Triathlon (formerly ITU) continental cups, a string of injuries sparked a switch to non-draft racing. In 2021, she burst onto the long course scene with podium finishes at IRONMAN 70.3 Memphis and IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells, with the promise of more to come.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DASH: My favorite feature is the ability to set up the screen horizontally or vertically! For my custom profile, I have a page I use for workouts that includes lap average power, 3s power, lap average cadence, lap time, and the power wheel. I also have a page with just the map and total ride time that I can access if I want to ride without thinking about power.

Favorite Stages Moment
My power meter allows me to hit very specific sessions and helps me track my progress. A mathematician at heart, I love data - and though I'm not tied to numbers, I find them very motivating! I love the flexibility of the Stages Dash profiles to view my workout data in a custom manner, and the mapping capabilities are great for following routes that can sync directly from my Strava account.

ONE PIECE OF GEAR YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: My Stages Power Meter

POST-RACE CELEBRATION: Ice cream!

POST-TRAINING FOOD GO-TO: A recovery smoothie with chocolate milk, frozen berries, peanut butter, banana, and protein powder

My best race ever was IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells in December 2021. I fought a strong field all the way down to the wire to achieve a podium finish and my first ever 70.3 Worlds qualification. After losing two years to injury and the COVID-19 pandemic, this result meant a lot and showed me that I can truly compete at the highest level in the sport.
